The station is aimed
at 15-29 year old who are at college, working, school etc. Who have a fast
lifestyle between going out with friends and doing work; This means that the
station have created way for the audience to listen on the go with iplayer and
podcast. I think that the station does not appeal to its target audience as
well as it could. This is because the music which they play on the station is
mostly repetitive chart music which does not appeal to me and the type of
audience I represent (punk, metal etc.) meaning that we do not want to listen
or hear any of the daytime shows.
In the daytime they play mostly the mundane repetitive chart
songs from the A group set list. This means that they are the most popular
songs at the moment this means that they play it over and over just in case you
missed it first time .They choose to do this because they want the target group
to hear they are playing the hottest tracks right now that way they will listen
and tell their friends about the station .The way they plat their songs is done
cleverly as well this is because they use techniques like a segue to break up
long pieces of dialogue to keep the listener interested in the show, also they
always make sure to play a happy song after the news to keep the shows feeling
of upbeat.
However the station does offer 2 shows for this genre of
music and one which I do like to listen to .the first of these being the rock
show what offers Rock, metal, thrash and new music which interviews some of the
famous heads of the music genre, the only problem is that the show starts at
12am on a Tuesday meaning that for a high majority it is too late for them to
listen because they will need to be up for work, college etc. Similar to this
there is one on at 12am on Wednesday what offers underground punk, hard-core
and ska from both sides of the Atlantic but annoyingly again is too late for us
to listen to.... I’m getting the feeling that they don't want us to tune in to
their radio station. However they have one show which for once is on at a
reasonable time is the Dan&Phil show where they take the request show,
strip it naked and spray it with an Internet cannon. This means that they will
play songs with music videos which their fans have submitted. This is great
because throughout the show you go from hard core punk to pop and even some old
gems thrown in for good measure keeping it fast, fun and entertaining. All in
all they seem to be chucking us a couple of shows to keep us happy but they are
not exactly the best but hey get what you can right.
