Music based programming

Music based programming is the name to describe shows which have music as their main feature along with other things e.g. radio shows ,in-store radios, music channel etc. These are used mainly to make sure that the music played fits in with the audience who are listening at the time (because Goths don't want to listen to One direction),it also helps radio shows and programme identify their audience and get a following who will listen each week.

Absolute classic rock is an example of this. Absolute classic rock plays no stop classic rock (as if the name the name wasn't obvious enough) and an example of one of their radio shows is haven't heard it in ages. In this shows listeners submit songs which haven't been played in ages so that they can once hear those glorious songs once more. The show is broadcast at 7pm meaning that its target audience is either getting home from work, collage etc. or getting ready to go out meaning that they can catch the majority of their target at the same meaning big listener numbers.

Next its radio one. Radio one play a mix of different genres of music using their different shows (though the majority of ones which I like are on late with the more main stream on during the day). This helps the station identify with a broader range of audience causing it to draw in more viewers(and we all know that it is important).one of the shows which they broadcast which I think is popular with my age group is the Dan& Phil show, which by their own words they " take the request show, strip it naked and spray it with an internet cannon”. This helps them bring in the viewers because they play whatever the audience want them to (which at times is very interesting) this means that the genres of music played on the show vary from week to week and even song to song making the show an ideal way to draw viewers in. I believe that they reach their target audience well because they have two youtubers as the presenters making it appeal to a wide audience and with them playing a varied song list they make a good show (though sometimes the music isn't that good, but hey what can you do?).

Finally I’m going to talk about a bit of an off the wall new one which is internet radio. internet radio has an easier way to grab audiences because in this day and age everyone is connected to the world wide web so all their listeners need to do is click on the page and have music blasting in to their ears instantly.one of these is a station called planet rock (watch out absolute classic rock) on which they play nonstop rock. The name helps them identify themselves with their target audience because hey it’s no stop rock so you find and lady gaga on it. I think using the name like that is a good way to draw the audience in because it identity’s the show clearly.

Asda fm

Asda FM is a radio station which plays in Asda live and across the country. The station is used mostly to play music to keep the shoppers happy while they do their weekly shop, but it is also used to advertise promotions in store which always makes you buy more stuff because at that price why not ?This radio station has a captive audience because anyone who enters the store is forced to listen to this, that is unless they put headphones in (which I do) so it's easy to see how the radio station gets over eighteen million listeners weekly.

Asda fm plays up to date music mostly (not that is good though) which is mostly. This appeals to the majority of their customers and will make their weekly shop less of a pain, the radio has now even evolved to do shout out and requests from their customers. This is one of the main reasons the station is the most listened radio stations. Amazingly as well people will tune in even outside the shop online even branching out to the U.S.One of the things what asda does well is it edits its playlists depending on who is in the store at the time this means at 12am you will have the rave music for the clubbers .
